More than 80 organizations have expressed their support for AB 222, which passed the State Assembly by a vote of 54-13 in June 2009. Although the bill was approved by the Senate Utilities, Energy and Communications Committee in July, the Senate Environmental Quality Committee elected not to act on the bill during the 2009 legislative session, putting it over for consideration in 2010.
